Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) is the national-level design entrance exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to the four-year Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme. UCEED 2027 will offer admissions at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur.UCEED Score Card is also recognised by several other institutes for admission to BDes programmes. The updated list of result-sharing institutes is published on the official UCEED website each year.

UCEED Exam Dates 2027

UCEED Application & Registration Form 2027

1. Candidates must register online through the official portal at www.uceed.iitb.ac.in

2. Only UCEED 2027 qualified candidates are eligible to apply for BDes programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIT Indore and IIITDM Jabalpur for the 2027-2028 academic year.

3. A common application form for BDes admissions is processed by the UCEED Office, IIT Bombay. The form is made available on the IIT Bombay Admissions Portal via a link on the official UCEED website.

4. Applicants must fill in personal details and select institutes in order of preference.

5. Submit the application after paying the processing fee and uploading digital copies of all required documents.

6. The signed copy of the first page of the completed application form must also be uploaded. Detailed instructions for each step are provided within the online form.

7. Required documents include a photograph, signature, UCEED Score Card, Class XII (or equivalent) mark sheet, EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), and OCI/PIO card (if applicable).

8. Seat allocation is based on All-India Rank (merit order), reservation category, and seat availability.

9. Applicants can edit and resubmit the application, including institute preferences, until the stated deadline.

10. After the deadline, all entries are final and no changes will be permitted.

11. Candidates must ensure that all information, including qualifying exam details and category, is accurate and complete.

12. Incorrect or incomplete applications will be rejected.

13. Each institute will conduct a document verification exercise at the time of admission.

14. Institutes reserve the right to cancel admission if any information is found to be incorrect.

15. Admission offers are provisional until fees are paid, documents verified, and all admission formalities completed.

16. Once counselling is complete, shifting between institutes is NOT allowed.

UCEED Paper Pattern 2027

• The exam consists of a single question paper with a total duration of three hours.
• The paper is in English only and carries a total of 300 marks.
• It is divided into two parts: Part-A and Part-B, both of which are compulsory.

Details of the two parts:

Part-A ( Total marks: 200; Maximum time: 2 hours )

Conducted as a computer-based test with three sections.

Section 1: NAT (Numerical Answer Type)

• 14 questions (4 marks each, no negative marking).
• Answers are entered as numbers using the virtual keyboard. No options are provided.

Section 2: MSQ (Multiple Select Question)

• 15 questions, with one or more correct options from the four given.

Marking scheme

• Full Marks (+4): All correct options selected, no incorrect option chosen.
• Partial Marks (+3): All four options are correct, but only three selected and no incorrect option chosen.
• Partial Marks (+2): Three or more options correct, only two correct selected and no incorrect option chosen.
• Partial Marks (+1): Two or more options correct, only one correct selected and no incorrect option chosen.
• Zero Marks (0): Question left unanswered.
• Negative Marks (-1): Any other case.

Section 3: MCQ (Multiple Choice Question)

• 28 questions, each worth 3 marks.
• Marking scheme:
  1. Correct answer: +3 marks
  2. Incorrect answer: -0.71 marks
  3. Four choices per question; only one correct option.

Part-B ( Total marks: 100; Maximum time: 1 hour )

• Consists of two questions that assess the candidate’s drawing skills and design aptitude.
• Questions are displayed on the computer screen; answers must be written or drawn in the answer booklet provided by the invigilator.
• Candidates with disabilities using a scribe are not permitted assistance in this part, as it directly evaluates drawing ability.
• The Part-B answer booklets are collected at the end of the exam.
• Part-B is mandatory for all candidates.

Both Part-A and Part-B must be completed within their respective time limits.

UCEED 2027 Syllabus

The UCEED syllabus is designed to assess a candidate’s drawing ability, observation skills, logical reasoning, and design sensibility. The exam has two parts:

Part-A ( Computer-Based Test )

Includes three sections — NAT, MSQ, and MCQ — covering the following areas:

• Visualization and Spatial Ability: Pictorial and diagrammatic questions testing the understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects.
• Practical and Scientific Knowledge: Familiarity with everyday mechanical and scientific concepts.
• Observation and Design Sensitivity: Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, people, situations, and events; capacity to think critically about visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.
• Environment and Society: General awareness of environmental, social, and cultural connections with design.
• Analytical and Logical Reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
• Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
• Creativity: Understanding of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs, and symbols.

Part-B ( Drawing Section )

• Drawing: Ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, perspective, and shading.
• Design Aptitude: Capability to practically and empathetically respond to design problems and real-world situations.

Note: The topics listed above are indicative of the nature of questions. The UCEED may not cover every listed topic in a given year.

UCEED Result 2027

• Results for UCEED 2027 will be announced in March 2027 on the official website (www.uceed.iitb.ac.in).
• Candidates must log in using the credentials created during registration to view their results.
• All shortlisted candidates will receive a common merit rank (All India Rank) and will be considered qualified for UCEED 2027.
• Qualified candidates can download their Score Card from the official UCEED 2027 website within the notified window.
• Securing a rank in UCEED 2027 does NOT guarantee admission to the BDes programme. Final admission depends on seat availability, category, and completion of the counselling process.
• Hard copies of the Score Card will not be provided by post or email.
• Candidates’ Part-A responses will be available for download only until the results are declared. No requests for access will be entertained after that.

UCEED Cut-off Marks (Reference: 2026)

The cut-off below reflects the minimum marks required in Part-A to appear on the UCEED rank list (based on UCEED 2026 data). Cut-offs for UCEED 2027 will be published after the exam.

UCEED Counselling and Seat Allotment 2027

• Post-Result Process: After the announcement of UCEED 2027 results, qualified candidates can download their scorecards from the official UCEED website.
• Eligibility for Admission: Only candidates who qualify UCEED 2027 can apply for admission to BDes programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIT Indore and IIITDM Jabalpur for the academic year 2027-2028.
• Common Application Form: A single common application form for BDes admissions is processed by the UCEED Office at IIT Bombay, which also conducts the joint seat allocation process.

Seat Allotment Process

• Five Rounds of Seat Allotment: Allotment occurs in up to five rounds and closes once all seats are filled. Provisional allotments are based on the applicant’s All India Rank (AIR), reservation category, and choice of institutes.
• Provisional Allotment Letters: Selected candidates receive provisional allotment letters via their registered email and are required to pay a Seat Acceptance Fee:
  • ₹60,000 for GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates
  • ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates

Important Rules

• Non-Payment Consequences: Candidates who do not pay the seat acceptance fee by the deadline, or who decline admission, will have their application cancelled and will not be considered in subsequent rounds.
• Choice Acceptance:

1. If allotted the first choice, candidates can accept (“freeze”) or decline the offer.
2. If allotted a lower preference, candidates can accept (“freeze”) or opt for upward movement (“float”).
3. Selecting “float” keeps the candidate eligible for higher preferences in later rounds; selecting “freeze” closes participation in further rounds.

Payment and Refund Policy

• Payment: The full seat acceptance fee must be paid on accepting an offer.
• Refund Policy: The acceptance fee is adjusted against institute fees. If a seat is declined after payment, refunds follow the admitting institute’s policy:
  1. ₹55,000 refundable for GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates
  2. ₹10,000 refundable for SC/ST/PwD candidates
  3. Refunds are processed after a ₹5,000 processing charge.
• Withdrawal Deadline for Refund: Candidates can withdraw up to the end of Round II to claim a refund. Withdrawals in Rounds III, IV, and V are not eligible for a refund.

UCEED Seat Matrix 2026–2027 (Reference)

The table below shows seats available across participating institutes as per the 2025-26 matrix. The official seat matrix for 2027-28 will be published on the UCEED website at the time of BDes application.

PwD reservations @ 5% are horizontal. The confirmed seat matrix for 2027-28 will be displayed on the official UCEED 2027 website (uceed.iitb.ac.in) when BDes applications open.

During the counselling period, information about seat availability at specific institutes will not be shared over phone or email. All updates are posted on the official UCEED website as per the published schedule.
