NIFT Admission – What to Know?
In today’s educations scenario, the value of higher education is slowly catching momentum. These days a majority of people are career-driven. To compete for a seat at the university in the UG or PG level, interested candidates have to fill out the NIFT application form. The NIFT application form fees is a nominal Rs. 2000/- for the general candidates and Rs. 1000/- for SC/ST/PHP candidates.
The university holds the Situation Entrance Test along with General Aptitude Test as a part of the UG entrance tests. Tests for various bachelor courses are different from each other. Similarly, the postgraduate entrance exams also include a round of General Discussion and Personal Interview.
The entrance examination is exhaustingly inclusive in approach and tests the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates. After the publishing of the cut off marks for qualifying, selected students are invited into counselling sessions.
NIFT offers the primary two umbrella disciplines that are the design and fashion technology. The two disciplines are further specialized in a catena of choices for the aspiring candidate.
UG aspirants can choose from various options such as fashion communication, knitwear design, apparel production, etc, whereas, master’s candidates have primarily 3 degrees to choose from. These are Fashion Management, Design, and Fashion Technology.
Apart from the institute’s regular courses, there is a wide variety of Continuous Education Programs (CEP). The CEP programs are an excellent industry-wide outreach program teaching professionals and students alike. The program, which stretches anywhere between 3 months to a year are certified/diploma courses for anyone interested in being a part of the fashion sector.
The scope of career after a course at NIFT is extremely wide and lucrative. The university has one of the highest placement records, with leading apparel and fashion brands hiring students at decent pay packages. Not only this, but students can also pursue further studies in reputed foreign universities, which have partnered with the university.

Fees and Scholarships
The university fees are extremely reasonable and consider various factors related to the candidates’ economic background. For those who hail from economically weaker backgrounds, there are scholarship programs offered by the university.
The Scholarship programs offer the students up to 100% waivers on the tuition fee based on parental income. Other programs also enable a study allowance and aid scheme for those wishing to pursue further studies abroad with overseas partner universities.

NIFT offers 2010 seats for B.Design and over 360 seats for B.F.Tech programme across 16 NIFT Campuses spread across the country.
NIFT Admission is based on test holder’s score of Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and situation test.
The weightage of GAT for selection in Bachelor in Fashion Technology is 100%. For Bachelor of Design, weightage of GAT score is 30%, CAT score is 50% and situation test is 20%.
NIFT is expected to release results for NIFT 2018 by February / March. Scores of Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) are released along with nift result. Students will have to login on the internet to check results as results will be declared via online mode only.
For B.Des Course Based on the scores students get in GAT and CAT exam, shortlisted candidates are invited for situation test and for Master Course ( MFM, M.F. Tech, M.Des ) They are called for GDPI (Group Discussion and Personal Interview).The final results are declared around May-June 2018. Students with the highest combined scores are considered for NIFT Admission and are shortlisted in the final merit list.
NIFT declares cutoffs for section and campus wise closing rank based on number of total test takers, difficulty level of exam etc.
