NID Entrance Exam Pattern
In order to secure admissions in design programmes on offer at NID, aspirants need to clear two stages which are:
- Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) – Pen & paper based written test
- Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) – Studio Test and Personal Interview
NID DAT 2019
The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by NID is a three hour duration exam and the total weightage of the test is 100 marks. This is a pen and paper based test. The medium of instruction of NID DAT 2019 is English and the test paper comprises of both objective as well as subjective questions. NID DAT (Prelims)is conducted to test an aspirant on the below mentioned abilities:

- Comprehension
- Analysis
- Creativity
- Visualisation

Undergraduate courses offered
Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) – Foundation programme
The foundation programme is organized for developing the basic skills of students in the specific areas of design.
The 4 year UG programmes are
- Industrial Design – This course includes three specifications such as Product Design, Furniture & Interior Design and Ceramic & Glass Design
- Communication Design – The communication design includes Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, Film & Video Communication, Exhibition (Spatial) Design
- Textile, Apparel and Lifestyle Design – This course includes the Textile design.

Structure of the courses offered in National Institute of Design
The programmes offered in NID have various specializations. The students can choose the courses according to their area of interest. The academic studies will include theoretical as well as practical sessions. There will be project work and field works according to each course. The institute offers design studios, innovation laboratories and knowledge management centre for various activities related to the course.
Evaluation process of various courses in National Institute of Design
The evaluation process for various courses will be based on the marks obtained in the semester wise examinations. The assignment grades and project marks are also included for each semester evaluation.

National Institute of Design Course Admissions
The admission to various courses in NID is based on the past performance in the qualifying examinations. For the admission of undergraduate programmes, the candidates have to take part in the written test and interview conducted by the institute. Also the candidate must have pursued a pass in 10+2 or equivalent. The candidates applying for various PG programmes should have pursued a bachelor’s degree in related fields. The upper age limit of the candidates is 30 years.
