NID Entrance Exam Pattern

In order to secure admissions in B.Design courses on offer at NID, aspirants need to clear two stages which are:

• Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) – Pen & Paper based Written Test
• Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) – Studio Test

For B.Design the DAT Prelims happens to be a 3 hour paper divided into two parts: Objective type with 40 marks questions and subjective type with sketching questions worth 60 marks. Only candidates who successfully clear the prelims are invited to the DAT Mains. The DAT Mains test includes studio test which involves students taking up hands-on assignments to finish within the given time, drawing – sketching and audio – visual perception test etc.

For M.Design the DAT Prelims happens to be a 2.5 hour paper divided into two parts: Objective type which is the Common Design Aptitude test with 40 marks questions for 30 mins and subjective type with sketching questions worth 60 marks for 2 hours. The DAT Mains test includes Submission of Statement of Purpose(SoP), Studio test and Interview and Portfolio Review at the NID campus.

Applicants who clear the mains move onto counselling and confirm their admission to the institute.

NID Studio Test / NID DAT Mains 2024

Studio test is held at NID campuses along with test centres in major cities such as Delhi, Pune & Kolkata. All of 100 marks, the test comes in varied formats such as hands-on practical assignments for B.Des aspirants.

For M.Des students, the studio test is conducted separately for different disciplines at the NID Campuses where the program is offered. The personal interview culminates with the studio test.

Portfolio / Personal Interview for NID Admission

Only NID M.Design students are required to prepare the portfolio. NID too require, like most design schools a portfolio that gives the panel a parameter to judge the student’s creativity. Any relevant artwork of the candidate should suffice, right from his or her childhood to the current time. A portfolio is a great yardstick to judge a student’s creativity based on the concept of the artwork and the arrangement of the works. NID 2024 Application Form

Registration for a NID admission is as follows:

1. Visit http://admissions.nid.edu and sign up
2. Sign up and do the Registration
3. Fill in the Online Application Form with necessary details; click ‘save & proceed’
4. Upload the mandatory documents and signature
5. Choose a payment option and pay
6. Download the application form and print it.

NID Application Process

Application forms for NID admission will be available from the 1st week of September 2023 for the academic year 2024 – 2025, at http://admissions.nid.edu. The submission of online application forms has to be done by the first week of December 2023. Any editing to the NID application forms has to be done by the 1st week of December 2023. The exam will be held in the last week of Dec 2023. The result will be out ( Tentatively by last week of March 2024 for B.Design and last week of Feb 2024 for M.Design ). The NID DAT result shall be available on the official website.

Uploading required documents

It’s mandatory for Students to submit the following when filling in the NID admission form:

• Scanned recent passport- size photograph in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 50KB and maximum 200KB
• Scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 50KB and maximum 200KB
• Caste GEN-EWS or OBC-NCL certificate (whichever applicable) in PDF format and size should be maximum of 1 MB. The Certificate must be issued on or after 1^st April , 2023.
• Candidates applying under  SC and ST Category should upload their valid caste certificate which mentions the name of the caste they belong to and should be issued in their name by a competent authority. It must be in in pdf format and and size should be maximum of 1 MB.
• Disability certificate, if applicable, in pdf format and and size should be maximum of 1 MB.
• Scanned copy of first and last pages of passport for overseas applicants.

Payment of NID Application Form

NID  applicants can pay their application fee for both Online gateway (debit/credit cards) Rs. 3000 is the fees for General category, General -EWS, OBC-NCL, Rs. 5000 for oversea pursuant and Rs. 1500 for SC, ST, PwD categories.

About NID Admit Card

NID admit card is released by officials of National Institute of Design (NID) on the official website of the entrance exam. Aspirants can download NID DAT admit card online from NID entrance exam’s official website. Candidates need to note that NID Entrance Exam admit card would only be issued to them if they have successfully completed and duly submitted NID application form.

NID admission process comprises of two rounds that aspirants need to clear – NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains. Here, NID Design Aptitude Test is known as NID DAT Prelims and the Studio Test as well as the interview and portfolio review round is collectively referred to as NID DAT Mains exam. Thus, candidates are informed that separate admit cards would be issued to them for NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains) examinations.

Step 3: Enter registered Email ID, Date of Birth and Roll Number/Application F orm number

Step 4: View and download NID hall ticket

Step 5: Take a clear print of NID entrance exam 2024 admit card

NID DAT admit card is a mandatory document that aspirants need to carry to their NID entrance exam test centre. No candidate will be allowed to appear for NID DAT Prelims or Mains exam if they are not carrying a valid NID hall ticket on the day of the examination.

About NID Result

The NID Results 2023 will be declared through online mode only. There is no other mode available to download the NID scorecard. The scorecard is considered valid for the current year only. The candidate needs to log in to the official website and enter their registered details to check their result of NID on https://www.nid.edu/home.

All the details including the qualifying status are mentioned on the candidate’s scorecard. Later on, the cut-offs for all categories are released by the authorities. After the declaration of NID Result 2024, NID Cut Off 2024 will be declared online. The results will be separate for each category. For the reserved category, there will be relaxation in cut-offs.

The admission process for NID 2024 dates will be announced, once the NID Results 2024 are declared.
