Nid Ahmedabad Entrance Exam – National Institute of Design Entrance Exam 2020

National Institute of Design (NID) offers admissions to aspirants in Bachelor of Design (BDes), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) as well as Master of Design (MDes) programmes on the basis of their performance in NID Design Aptitude Test. In order to secure admission in design programmes offered at National Institute of Design (NID) aspirants need to take part in NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains). Only candidates who are shortlisted in NID DAT (Prelims) can appear for NID DAT (Mains).

NID Entrance Exam 2019 Eligibility

NID offers Bachelor of Design (BDes) course at NID Ahmedabad as well asGraduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) course at NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra. The eligibility criteria for NID entrance exam for BDes/GDPD course admissions states that candidates who have cleared or who will be appearing for their higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examination from any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent in the year 2019-2020 can apply for the exam.

Qualifying exams that are accepted by National Institute of Design are as mentioned below:

  • Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU,
  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU,
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU,
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.
  • High School Certificate Examination from Cambridge University or an International Baccalaureate diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • AICTE approved three-year Full time Diploma after Class X offered by Board of Technical Education of any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on
  • Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India.

NID Entrance Exam 2019 Age Limit

Indian Nationals in General Category Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.
Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST) Upper age limit for candidates is 23 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.
Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1994 are eligible to apply for admission.
Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30 June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.

NID Entrance Exam 2019 Process

Step 1: Fill NID Entrance Exam Application Form

Candidates need to fill their NID Design Aptitude Test 2019 application form on the official website of NID. To apply successfully for the exam, candidates need to first fill the application form online after which they need to upload their supporting documents, signature and photograph. Aspirants who are applying for admission at NID under any reserved category need to submit the below mentioned documents in JPG format. The size of these documents should not be more than 150 KB.

Once aspirants complete the above mentioned process they need to pay NID admission application fee. Candidates can pay the application fee for NID Entrance Exam 2019 either online (by Credit/Debit Card) or by Demand Draft which should be drawn in favour of ” ‘All India Management Association” and should be payable at New Delhi. Aspirants need to fill all the details regarding their DD in their online application form.

Step 2: Download NID Entrance Exam Admit Card

The call letter/admit card for NID Entrance Exam is posted to the candidate’s specified address in the month of December. Aspirants who do not receive the admit card for the entrance test need to contact the NID Admission Cell immediately. For the second phase of the admission test, candidates can download their admit cards in the month of February/ March.

Step 3: Appear for NID Entrance Exam 2019/NID DAT (Prelims)

The entrance exam for NID admissions is conducted in two steps which are NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains). In NID DAT (Prelims) aspirants need to give a written test which comprises of objective type as well as subject questions. This entrance exam conducted by NID is of 3 hours duration.

Step 4: Check NID Entrance Exam Result 2019

First of all NID announces the result for NID DAT. Candidates who get shortlisted in this round need to further appear for NID DAT (Mains). Candidates can check their result for NID entrance exam on the official website of the exam by providing details such as their email address, date of birth, roll number/application number.

Step 5: Appear for NID DAT (Mains) 2019

Candidates who make it to the cut-off for NID DAT (Prelims), need to further appear for NID DAT (Mains) wherein authorities conduct a Studio Test and Interview round. In the Studio Test for NID admissions aspirants are given hands-on practical assignments which they need to complete in the stipulated time.

Step 6: Check NID Final Merit List

On the basis of a candidate’s performance in NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains), that is, the Studio Test and Interview round, the final merit list for NID admissions is prepared. Aspirants can check the merit list for NID admissions on the official website of the exam.

NID Entrance Exam Analysis 2019

For the 2019 NID DAT (Prelims) BDes exam paper, the overall structure in terms of marks did not change from the last year, It was, objective type – MCQs for 70 marks and subjective type – Drawing Questions for 30 marks totalling to a 100 marks. Overall, the objective section seemed to be more straightforward except for a few questions compared to the subjective section. It demanded a combination of creative thinking and problem solving abilities.

NID DAT Prelims 2019 exam paper for MDes was divided into two halves- objective and subjective. The objective section had 59 questions in total. These were further divided into different sections with marks per question ranging from 0.5 to 3. The subjective part had 3 questions which tested the creativity and the sketching abilities of students.
