NID Eligibility Criteria
For NID admission the applicant needs to fit into the following criteria:
Age limit
The upper age limit for B. Des students happens to be 20 years for general and overseas applicants, and 23 for SC/ST/ OBC-NCL and 25 years for PwD categories. While for M. Des students, the upper limit is 30 for general and overseas students, 33 years for SC/ST/OBC-NCL and 35 years for PwD categories.
Educational Qualification
Students applying for B.Des. need to have passed 12th grade (Any Stream) from a recognized board of education or 10 + 3 Diploma approved by AICTE, and M. Des pursuant must have a bachelor’s degree of either 3 or 4 years (any discipline) from any recognized university.
Number of Seats
B.Design course at NID Ahmedabad campus has 125 seats, Kurukshetra – 75 seats, Vijayawada – 75 seats, Bhopal -75 seats and Jorhat -75 seats. So in total 450 seats are there at all five B.Design Campuses.
In the M.Design Course in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru there are a total 347 seats in all 19 M.Design courses; including all reserved categories.
For overseas candidates; 15 seats in B. Des at Ahmedabad Campus and Bhopal Campus and two seats per course in M. Des programs are available.
NID DAT Entrance Exam 2023 ( Paper Pattern )
In order to secure admissions in design programmes on offer at NID, aspirants need to clear two stages which are:
- Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) – Pen & paper based written test
- Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) – Studio Test and Personal Interview
The DAT Prelims happens to be a 3 hour paper divided into two parts: Objective type with 40 marks questions and subjective type with sketching questions worth 60 marks. The pattern stays the same for both B.Des and M. Des.
DAT Mains is further divided into two parts: Studio test for B.Design students and Studio test, SOP submission and Interview for M.Design students. Only candidates who successfully clear the prelims are invited to the mains. The studio tests involve students taking up hands-on assignments to finish within the given time.
Applicants who clear the mains move onto counselling and confirm their admission to the institute.

NID Studio Test / NID DAT Mains 2023
NID Studio test compromises of an important component in the DAT Mains apart from the personal interview. Studio test is held at NID campuses along with test centres in major cities such as Delhi, Pune & Kolkata. All of 100 marks, the test comes in varied formats such as hands-on practical assignments for B. Des aspirants.
For M. Des students, the studio test is conducted separately for different disciplines at the NID Campuses where the program is offered. The personal interview culminates with the studio test.
Portfolio / Personal Interview for NID Admission
NID too require, like most design schools a portfolio that gives the panel a parameter to judge the student’s creativity. Any relevant artwork of the candidate should suffice, right from his or her childhood to the current time. A portfolio is a great yardstick to judge a student’s creativity based on the concept of the artwork and the arrangement of the works. The personal interview questions about the students portfolios as well.

NID Admission 2023 – Registration Details
Registration for a NID admission is as follows:
- Visit http://admissions.nid.edu and sign up
- Sign up and do the Registration
- Fill in the Online Application Form with necessary details; click ‘save & proceed’
- Upload the mandatory documents and signature
- Choose a payment option and pay
- Download the application form and print it.
NID Application Process
Application forms for NID admission will be available from the 1st week of October 2022 for the academic year 2023-2024, at http://admissions.nid.edu. The submission of online application forms has to be done latest by the last week of Nov 2022. Any editing to the NID application forms has to be done by the 2nd week of December 2022. The exam will be held in the 1st week of January 2023. The result will be out (Tentatively by 2nd week March of 2023). The NID DAT result shall be available on the official website.
Uploading required documents
It’s mandatory for Students to submit the following when filling in the NID admission form:
- Scanned recent passport- size photograph in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 100KB
- Scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 100KB
- Caste or OBC-NCL certificate (whichever applicable) in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 150KB
- Disability certificate, if applicable, in JPG/JPEG format and size should be minimum 75KB and maximum 150KB
- Scanned copy of first and last pages of passport for overseas applicants
- Certificates of educational qualifications
Payment of NID Application Form
NID applicants can pay their application fee for both Online gateway (debit/credit cards) Rs. 3000 is the fees for General category, General -EWS, OBC-NCL, Rs. 5000 for oversea pursuant and Rs. 1500 for SC, ST, PwD categories.
NID Admission Counselling
The NID admission process includes the following steps:
- Submission of Campus preference. : After viewing the result the candidate has to submit his/ her campus preferences. It is mandatory to submit the campus preferences, failing to which will be considered that the candidate is not interested to opt for any seat. Thereby candidates cannot participate in subsequent admission process.
- Round -1 Seat allotment : The candidate will be provisionally allotted a seat in the campus selected by him/ her.
- Payment of fees for the confirmation of seat: In order to confirm the seat, the candidate will be provided with a window to make an initial payment of NON- REFUNDABLE Fees for the confirmation of seat within the time limit provided by the admission authorities.
Rs. 30000/- for all Indian candidates and Rs.75000/- for Overseas candidates - Uploading of the documents: All the documents are to be uploaded as a single pdf file of size not more than 10MB. The candidate have to upload the following documentAny one valid photo identity (Adhar Card, Election ID, Driving Licence, Pan Card/ valid passport), Birth Certificate or school leaving certificate, 10th Marksheet, 12th Marksheet, Caste Certificates / PwD Certificate (if applicable), Valid passport, if applied for Overseas seats.
- Document Verification: The original document verification process will be done by the respective NID’s .
- Issue of Provisional Offer letters of Admission: Based on the merit number and availability of seats, Provisional offer letters of admission will be issued to those candidates whose uploaded documents have been verified and found to be correct, by the respective NID’s.
- Round 2 – Seat allocation: The seats remaining vacant after the Round 01 Seat allotment will be opened for allotment in Round 02, the dates for which will be informed by the respective NID’s.

NID DAT Result Dates
DAT Prelims results for M. Des for the year 2023 will come out on February 28th, 2023 and for B.Des on March 30, 2023 respectively. Followed by which, the students had their DAT Mains and later the counselling. NID released the final DAT Mains result on May 18, 2023 for B.Des and May 16, 2023 for M.Des.
NID Placement
An NID admission is often considered enough for students to get great career opportunities, but the institute makes sure to encourage and train its students to explore their chosen field while still in college.
Every year, placements at NID break their own previous year’s record. According to a report from February 2022, total 124 companies participate in NID placement across its campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. Authorities said nearly 400 job offers have been made to students, from sectors such as the FMCG, automotive, textile, apparel, games, IT, lifestyle, education, jewellery, baggage, electronics, advertising, entertainment, and others. Some of the big names that visited the NID for placements last year were Microsoft, Wipro technologies, Whirlpool India Ltd., VIP Industries Ltd, Trident Group, Titan Industries, Toshiba, Tanishq, Hey Math!, INFOSYS Technologies Ltd., Philips, Adobe, Ashok Leyland, Myntra, and many more.
NID Salary
NID admission opens up a plethora of work options for the students. On an average any NID graduate can take home a package ranging from 35 to 75 lacs.
