National Institute of Design (NID) offers 428 seats for UG (128 at Ahmedabad, 75 at Kurukshetra, 75 at Vijayawada, 75 at Bhopal and 75 at Jorhat) and 347 seats for PG (126 at Ahmedabad, 95 at Bengaluru, 126 at Gandhinagar).
NID has its main campus in Ahmedabad. The premier Design Coaching Institute for NID that was founded back in 2005 is Bhanwar Rathore Design Studio (BRDS) is mentored and guided by Dr. Bhanwar Rathore who is a NIFT and IIT-Delhi Alumni. He has an expertise of more than 18 years and is managing all 86+ BRDS centres across India. BRDS has its Head office in Ahmedabad.
BRDS is the best NID coaching institute and has the highest selection record compared to any coaching institute in India. Till now the total number of candidates selected from BRDS at NID is 2162.
BRDS is the only institute that publishes its results with complete details such as student’s names, cities, rank, and college.
The result of NID DAT Prelims 2026 Result for B.Des Programme will be declared on 1st April 2026. NID DAT Mains Exam is scheduled for 26th April 2026 and 4th May 2026.
For M.Des programmes, the result will be announced on 17th February, 2026. NID DAT Mains Exams are scheduled between 1st March 2026 to 4th April 2026 for different disciplines.

Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (Prelims)
The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims primarily evaluates each candidate on the following abilities: Knowledge, Comprehension, Analysis, Creativity, VisualisationThe B.Des DAT Prelims : The paper will consist of an examination of 3 hours duration and 100 marks. This is a paper and pencil / pen test, conducted at the same time on the same day across all test centers. The questions asked may involve test and visuals.The M.Des DAT Prelims Papers: The M.Des prelims paper is of 100 marks, consisting of a Common Design Aptitude Test and a discipline-specific test, which together will evaluate the Design Aptitude of the candidate. The DAT Prelims paper comprises a mix of objective and subject questions. Candidates applying in two disciplines the total duration of DAT prelim will be 4.5 hours (30 minutes for CDAT and 2 hrs. each for discipline specific tests).
Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (Mains)
Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for the DAT Mains-studio test. NID DAT Mains (Studio Test) is conducted to judge your creative skills. Your orientation towards design and presence of mind with the help of a series of tests.
NID DAT Mains Test (B.Design): Students have to appear for Studio test which includes Doodling, Hands-on model making (3 D model making), Drawing / Sketching, Audio-visual perception test etc
NID DAT Mains Test (M.Design): The test is divided into 4 parts: Online Submission of Statement of Purpose (SoP) with Digital Portfolio – Sample of Works, Online Interview and Studio test at NID Campuses. The studio test is conducted separately for different disciplines at the NID Campuses where the program is offered. It comprises of various activities such as Hands-on model making (3 D model making), Drawing / Sketching, Audio-visual perception test, etc.
